In 2023, Jade, with the support of her fellow YPAG (Youth People’s Action Group) member Mya, led a powerful social action project called LOVE ‘OUR’ YOUTH. This event was born from their shared passion for raising awareness about the critical lack of youth provisions in South London, where many youth clubs have either shut down or simply do not exist.
The mission of LOVE ‘OUR’ YOUTH was clear: to spotlight the importance of youth work and emphasize the urgent need for increased funding to revive youth clubs in South London. Jade and Mya sought to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders—practitioners, community leaders, council members, and young people—to not only discuss the issue but also pledge their commitment to driving change.
What started as a small event intended for 30 attendees quickly gained traction, with over 50 people showing up and engaging throughout. The event exceeded expectations, creating a vibrant and passionate space for dialogue. By the end of the day, attendees had pledged their support to help secure more funding and resources to build new youth clubs and expand programmes in the area.
LOVE ‘OUR’ YOUTH was a remarkable step forward, showing that when young people like Jade and Mya lead with passion and purpose, they can inspire entire communities to take action.
